Help! Why does my new shower screen look green

Why Does My Shower Screen Look Green?

Let me guess you have just installed your new shower screen and it looks green in different lights, let me help you in finding out why this has happened.

There a few factors to consider in this process but I will not make this post overly long I am here to help and help we shall do.

Why does my new shower look green?

You are not going crazy let me tell you that. Your new shower screen does look green either very subtle in different angles or your shower screen is frosted and completely green.

The reason your new shower screen looks green is that believe it or not normal clear glass isn’t actually clear.

Further more what creates the green tint in your shower screen is caused by a large amount of iron oxide in your glass which becomes a lot more apparent in the glass in bathrooms especially

Why Does My Shower Screen Look Green

Bathroom shower panels or full screens often need to be thicker 6m2 to 14mm glass so that thickness especially in panels makes the clear (high iron) screens more green in appearance.

Below are two examples of subtle green tinge to a new shower panel and a fluted panel that is a little greener.

Green Tinted Shower Screen

The fluted panels can look the greeniest of all the panels due to the high iron in the glass and the thickness.

How do I get a perfect clear non looking green shower screen?

Undoubtably there is hope people and I am here to help you get the clearest non green shower screen.

The process to get this non green clear screen is to reduced he amounts of iron used in during the manufacturing process is referred to low iron shower screens.

Ultra clear glass which I call white glass for fluted screens is more transparent and to get technical light transmittance can reach 91.5%.

What do I tell my glazier to get non green looking shower screens?

To get the ultra clear/whiter shower screens you need to get the screen custom made most of the time.

Also when you are getting it made you want to tell your glazier that you want a low iron glass shower screen or for fluted you want a whiter finish both.

In addition both examples are below to better help tell your glazier what you are wanting for your screen.

There Is A Down Side

Without a doubt a big downside like most nice things is the cost of getting a ultra clear shower screen.

Ultra clear shower screens are often two or three times more expensive then your average screen due to the manufacturing process.

Cost wise for an ultra clear glass shower screen you could be looking at anywhere between $2000 to $5000 which is costly.

Reeded Shower Screen and Frosted Screens Turning Green

Importantly I wanted to cover reeded shower screens and frosted shower screens as they will be the most green looking.

Due to the toughen glass and other processes to create the look of the screens yours will become more prominent with the green tinge.

To avoid this green looking fluted glass you want to ask for white glass or whiter glass to allow for a better finish.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion bathroom shower screens can have a tinge of green to them this is for certain you are not crazy and your eyes are not funny. Yes certain lights make it worse and different angles can make the shower screen more green but it sometimes is unavoidable.

We would all love these ultra clear shower screens to avoid the green tinge but we also do not want to overpay to have it.

If you do have a screen installed and it is green there is not much you can do about it now but for that renovator who is still organising it I hope this has helped you.
