The horrible C word you get told when you are looking to renovate in the 2020’s. Often there has been a big push away from using colour bathrooms so why is it on the comeback? Well let me guide you through the number one reason everyone’s using colour in there bathroom renovations in the 2020’s.

Colour In Bathrooms

Often when we think of colour in renovations we think 90’s. The reason for me anyways is I will always think of my parents pastel pink bathroom tiles.

They were hideous and aged poorly but they weren’t the only bathroom full of pastels.

Whether it was vanity or tile finish colour was being used to get away from the marble tones and real natural slate finishes of the previous decades so the idea of flat colour seemed appealing.

Next I will tell you why its back though.

Below is a colour chart of colour being using in those 90’s and early 2000’s bathroom to really hit you.

Lastly to hammer home the colour side below is 90’s style bathroom were they really leaned into the pink acyclic with the matching sink and bath

Number One Reason Colour Is Back In Bathrooms

Obviously you are here to find out the number one reason colour in back in bathrooms and bathroom renovations.

The answer is pretty simple. Renovators and designers are looking to be different. We have reached the peak of the neutral practical bathroom with greys and whites so now we are moving into a new era.

Without a doubt this era of renovating with colour is going to be a little bit of disaster and it was always coming.

Last year we renovated close to 200 bathrooms and 75% of those bathrooms were a combination of grey and white so you can see that a new renovator or designer would look at that overload and say hey lets do something different.

How long will this trend last? Well going into 2024 and 2025 bathroom tiling trends will be colour but not the bright colours or pastels mentioned above.

Besides the aggressive look of pastels they are just not that easy to get so the colour trend will be more of the darker colour types.

Examples I Like Of Colour In Bathrooms

Following on from the shock of colour let me try and show you examples of colour being used in bathroom that I love.

By far the most popular style of colour used in tiles is the 100mm x 100mm or the 150mm x 150mm sheened or gloss finished tiles.

Bathroom Tiling Trends 2024 and 2025

Lastly we have the important questions of what will be the bathroom tiling trends of 2024 and 2025.

For me and basing this on what you can see in European markets and everyday bathroom renovators we are going into two major tiling trends.

Firstly we will have the large format tiling trend. This trend which I have covered HERE is the use of porcelain panels and large format tiled sheets.

Perfect for the home owner who wants to make a statement and have less grout.

Last but no least is the mentioned above colour trend. This trend can be coloured tiles in 2024 or coloured basins.

Pushing through will be trends of coloured tiles of mostly the smaller sizes to make more of an impact.

Final Thoughts

Covering what I believe will be the future in bathrooms for the next few years is the colour trend.

Home renovators need to feel like there bathroom is special and long gone has the feeling of messing it up.

Designers and builders are going to be more daring and adventurous in the coming future but if it is not for you do not stress sometimes its better to be happy then different.
