Also if your budget is higher than the $5k but you don’t want to spend the $25k this will be super helpful.
Here are some ideas on how to make the most of that budget:

1. DIY (Do It Yourself Cost Breakdown)
If you are able to swing a hammer you are going to save yourself some money in a bathroom renovation.
Below is a super handy guide to what bathroom renovation parts cost on average.
- Strip Out With A Bin (Demo Side)
Involves all the removal parts of the bathroom stripping it back to sand or concrete. It also includes removing all the rubbish from site.
On average in australia stripping out your own bathroom is between $1500 to $2k

- Plumbing
Plumbing cost are crazy in 2025 with the average hard to track in a bathroom renovation.
The average cost in a bathroom renovation for Australia in 2025 and 2026 is between $3k to $6k. This includes pre work and fit off.
- Electrical
Electrical is super hard to give an average for as its the single most specific part of a bathroom renovation .
On average in Australian bathroom renovations for 2025 and 2026 the average cost of electrical work is $1000 to $2000

- Tiling (Prep, Waterproofing and Tiling)
Essentially the most important part of the bathroom renovation is tiling. Not just tiling but the waterproofing part.
Australian tilers in 2025 and 2026 for tiling bathrooms including waterproofing and prep work will charge on average $6k to $11k depending on tiling heights.
- Fit Offs (Fittings and Screens)
This is pretty general but fit off costs relate to shower screen screens but for the labour part you are looking at around a $1000 to $2000

- Materials
Materials are a super hard one to average but most bathroom renovations in australia have somewhere between $7000 to $11,000 in materials for mid level items.
This also depends if you buy your items yourself or go through a bathroom renovator.

2. Prioritize the Essentials
The biggest variance in what your bathroom will cost is the age of the home and the size.
Those Bathrooms with 4 major items, separate shower, bath, toilet and vanity are the one of the most expensive.
Bathrooms with separate rooms for toilets are probably the most expensive renovation.
If a budget 2025 bathroom renovation is the way you are leaning avoid tiling more than basic you will about $5000 to $10k
For larger rooms with lots of items go either market place or wait for the two big bathroom sales days.
The end of financial year and Christmas sales you will get from 20% to 50% off.

3. Keep Plumbing Changes to a Minimum
- Avoid moving the toilet or adding a toilet this alone costs the most
- Any home built before 1970 or even 1980 most likely has galvanised plumbing this will cost. For a breakdown CLICK HERE

How To Renovate A Bathroom Under $5000 In Australia
Okay here we are my breakdown on how to renovate your 2025 bathroom under $5000.
You are going to have to alot of the heavy lifting with this budget.
Firstly you will need to strip that bathroom out to a level your self managed tradies can work with.
The non negotiable will be the plumbing if you are including mixers or updated fittings if not work around that.
My tip to saving costs is find a tiler who can do most of the work for you.
If he can do all the prep, tile, install the fittings for you it will reduce your stress and time.
So with that in mind if you can find a tiler to do bulk of the work for around $3500 you will be in front, the fittings will cost on the lower end $1000 and the final $500 you can use for and plumber fit offs or friends to pay off with a carton or two.

- Don’t remove a walls unless it actually benefits you in a real way
- Stick to single vanities and single showers they add over $4000
